According to Ukrainian authorities, up to 80,000 Ukrainians—both prisoners of war (POWs) and civilian detainees—are considered missing as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The majority are suspected to be held in Russian captivity.

According to Ukrainian authorities, up to 80,000 Ukrainians—both prisoners of war (POWs) and civilian detainees—are considered missing as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine. The majority are suspected to be held in Russian captivity. The panel discussion will examine the serious human rights violations and crimes committed against these individuals, including through survivor testimonies, and explore the legal avenues for achieving accountability and justice.

Mark Klamberg – Professor of Public International Law at Stockholm University and co-author of the OSCE report from 2025 on the treatment of Ukrainian POWs by Russia.
Yevhen Zakharov – Former dissident, human rights lawyer, and director of the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group (KHPG).
Kateryna Buriakovska – Lawyer for the KHPG.
Yurii and Natalia – Ukrainian survivors of Russian captivity.
